International Invitational Showcase
Eight teams, including one comprised solely of Upper Midwest High School Elite League players, will descend on New Hope Ice Arena this weekend to play in the newly formatted International Invitational Showcase.
The showcase will be played as a round robin event this weekend with eight teams divided into two pools. Pittsburgh Elite, Shattuck-St. Mary’s and Salzburg, Austria-based Red Bull are in the Minnesota Elite League’s pool.
Chicago Mission, Culver Academy, Michigan Development Hockey League and Quebec-based Stanstead College are in a separate pool.
Minnesota Elite League continues play at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday against Shattuck-St. Mary's and at noon on Sunday against Red Bull.
Elite League teams have won at least a share of eight of the last 10 IIT titles, including three of the last four.
This year’s team includes the league’s top three regular season scorers in TCO’s Brittan Alstead of Wayzata and Mason Jenson of Rogers and MAP South’s Chuck Owens of Cretin-Derham Hall.
