Brent Solomon capped a record-setting Upper Midwest High School Elite League season by scoring with 3:51 left in overtime Sunday to lift the Elite League All-Star team to a 4-3 triumph over Shattuck-St. Mary’s in the International Invitational Tournament championship game at New Hope Ice Arena.

Solomon, a Champlin Park senior, scored the winner on a blistering one-time shot off a feed from Lincoln Ayers Assad (Holy Angels). Solomon scored early in the third period to tie the score at 3-3.

Solomon, who committed to Wisconsin in October, scored a record-setting 28 goals for Twin Cities Orthopedics in the regular season and league playoffs. He finished with a tournament-best seven goals in three IIT games. He also led the tournament with nine points.

Jimmy Dodig (Cretin-Derham Hall) and William Dosan (St. Thomas Academy) scored first-period goals for the Elite League All-Stars, which lead 2-1 heading into the second.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s scored twice in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the third.

Easton Cody (Centennial) and Zach Price (Maple Grove) split the goaltending duties for the Elite League All-Stars with Cody stopping 31 shots in the game’s first half and Price stopping 20 in the second half.

With Sunday’s victory Elite League teams have won at least a share of nine of the last 12 IIT titles, including four of the last six.
